Exercise Science
Exercise Science prepares students for careers in fitness and health promotion, strength and conditioning, and wellness programs.
Graduates will find employment opportunities in both public and private health and fitness facilities and health care settings. We also prepare students for graduate study in physical therapy, exercise science, medicine, chiropractic, and nutrition.
The exercise science field is expanding exponentially.
Get hands-on experience working with coaches, teams, and athletes on fitness, nutrition, and wellness plans.
Internship opportunities with physical therapists, clinics, fitness centers, hospitals, and local sports teams.
Optional pre-professional concentration prepares students for physical therapy, chiropractic, medical school, and more.
Sample Courses
EX 330 Kinesiology and Biomechanics
The study of human movement, this course investigates the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and mechanical basis for human movement. The laboratory portion of the course will concentrate on the mathematical concepts and problem solving associated with human movement.
EX 350 Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries
A course designed to provide entry level knowledge in the field of sport related injuries. This course includes units dealing with the history of athletic training, basic anatomy of common injuries, evaluation techniques, preventive measures to reduce the incidences of injuries and a knowledge of basic treatment procedures to be used after injuries occur. Legal and ethical issues will also be discussed.
EX 450 Rehabilitation and Modalities in Sports Medicine
Methods and techniques in the application of therapeutic modalities and their use in the treatment of athletic injuries while under the guidance of a certified athletic trainer.
