Josiah Satterfield
I came to Montreat because I wanted to come to a college where my faith would be encouraged. I also came because of Dr. Bill Forstchen. I have listened to talk radio since the age of 15, and I have heard him as a guest on some of the programs. I was fascinated that there was a professor who taught history from a Constitutional-originalist perspective. Lastly, I came because the financial aid office was so helpful and willing to work hard to get me as many grants as possible. My favorite thing about Montreat is the class discussions that are enabled by smaller class sizes.

Well, I think the first thing that drew me into Montreat was the incredible stonework buildings that made me feel like I was in the castle from Harry Potter (I have a vivid imagination). I soon discovered, however, that the magic of this place extends far beyond the granite walls. The community is excellent - a more tightly-knit group of friends I will likely never form anywhere else - and due to the ethnic and social diversity here, I have become friends with people from cultures and circles with which I would never have imagined associating. On top of that, my professors are brilliant, some even famous, and most with credentials and experience far beyond what their positions require. The modestly sized student body means that there is a good faculty-to-student ratio, something I may have underappreciated at first, but have quickly grown to value more than any of the school's other attributes. The faculty members and professors are always willing to take time out of their days to help out a student, discuss something from a class, or just have a nice friendly chat. They genuinely care. And it is that warm vibe of welcoming and belonging, both from faculty and from fellow students, which has truly made me feel like Montreat is a place I can call home.
