'Renewal: Students Caring for Creation,' a grassroots college-student led creation care network founded in 2008, joined the local Earth Day celebration on April 22nd.
The event was hosted by SEEDS, Montreat College’s new creation care club. Renewal is visiting over 30 Christian campuses across the United States and Canada on The Green Awakening Tour. For the tour, Renewal's co-coordinators Anna Jane Joyner and Ben Lowe have traveled to colleges to meet with students, faculty members and college administrators to discuss how campuses can become better stewards. Lowe, a recent graduate of Wheaton College and author of Green Revolution: Coming Together to Care for Creation will speak at this event.
Montreat College co-hosted an Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 25th, at River Walk Park in Black Mountain. The fair included educational exhibits form environmental agencies as well as green vendors. Activities included bike rides, river walk hikes, eco games, organic food, demonstrations, booths, and electric car rides.
There was also a river clean-up throughout the day on the 25th. There was also a service project at Black Mountain Primary sponsored by the school’s PTO. Black Mountain Primary was awarded a grant from Lowe’s and have many trees to plant on the 25th.
