B.S. or B.A. in Elementary Education

Benefits and Outcomes

Teaching is a privilege and one of the highest callings. In light of this call, Montreat’s goal is to cultivate teachers who embody the transforming, renewing, and reconciling work of God in the world of education.

Some common employers of Elementary Education graduates include:
• Elementary schools
• Public, private, Montessori, etc.
• Day care centers and nursery schools
• Boards of Education
• Overseas schools for military dependents

The Montreat College Teacher Education Program offers a course of study and internships that lead to a B.S. or a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Class A North Carolina teaching license. The program also offers free and comprehensive assistance to graduates for the duration of their teaching careers.

Intense, individual mentoring has been identified as the most important indicator of a new teacher’s success. Our program provides students with more than two hundred hours of mentored field experience before they even begin to student teach.

They are familiar with all the expectations placed on them by national standards (NCATE), State requirements, local school boards, concerned local communities and families. Our expectations for our teacher candidates exceed all those expectations. We believe the teacher of the future must be the brightest, most innovative, positive professional in American society. The Montreat College candidate is eager to demonstrate his or her effectiveness.

Based upon the programmatic theme, "The Teacher as Agent of Change," our program is designed to produce knowledgeable, skillful, and articulate teachers who do the joyous and difficult work of education for the glory of God. (The goals and objectives for the Elementary program are included under Elementary Education in the Montreat College Catalog.)
