This internship gave her many opportunities to gain experience in the broadcasting field. Some of her responsibilities were to filter all incoming information for possible stories, sorting emails, answering phone calls, and monitoring police scanners. After filtering through all this information, she would then pitch story ideas to the producers at the station. Artie also earned the opportunity to do some script writing for the news anchors, and even participate in the editing for the eleven o’clock show.
This internship was a great experience, giving Artie many opportunities to develop her skills in writing for broadcasting and working with many different kinds of people in a wide range of situations. She continues to hone these skills this semester after signing on with WLOS as an Associate Producer and VO Editor. In addition to her work off campus, Artie is also serving Montreat College as the manager of the Whetstone, the student newspaper. When asked if there was any advice she would like to share from her experience, she stated, “Experience is key to getting a job these days, and there are many opportunities in Communications.”
