Cross Country teams shine at Southeastern Classic
The men's and women's cross country teams competed very well this weekend at the 2007 Southeastern Classic held on Vanderbilt University's home cross country course, Vaughn Park in Nashville, TN. "This was a great opportunity to see most of our AAC and Regional competition," said Coach Larios, "I think we faired very well today, especially with our past 14 days of training. For most, the past two weeks have been the toughest in terms of volume and intensity... so having run well with tired legs bodes great results for our team." The Lady Cavs finished in 13th place out of 22 schools, finishing ahead UVA-Wise, Bryan College and Berea College. The men were once again led by freshman Ben Hall. Hall completed the 8K course in his second fastest time of the year, 29:00.85.
Also running well for the men and running his season's best time was Justin Edwards (30:11.16.). Hall and Edwards finished 66th and 109th out of 191 runners. Josh Woodward matched his season's best time (32:56), while Pete Taylor set a new personal best mark with his 35:04.
On the women's side, Talisa Bishop once again led the Lady Cavs with an impressive 13th place finish and a season's best 19:21. Senior Megan Riser also had her career best time in 21:00. Kirsten Gnagy's 22:10 was also her season's best time. Elyse Gildernew and Brittnye Scott also ran great races by finishing in 23:06 and 24:19, respectively.
Montreat will now take the next two weeks to sharpen up before they toe the line at the NAIA Region XII/ AAC Conference Championship. This championship will determine any national qualifiers. The top men's and women's team automatically qualify for the nationals, while the next five individuals also qualify.
