Baseball splits with Bluefield; rack up 25 hits, 5 homeruns in game one

In the first game, Montreat College would send its hottest pitcher to the mound in Patrick Ballew looking to go into the conference tournament with momentum and a chance to go in as the third seed. Ballew would pitch five complete with only allowing two earned runs on six hits and four strikeouts. Seth Blevins would come in and hold the Rams into the seventh when the Cavaliers would end the game with a walk off homerun and the mercy rule.

The Cavaliers would end this game with 19 runs on 25 hits as they would use five homeruns in the first game to put it out of reach. Two of those homeruns delivered by Senior Catcher Jesse Wise as he would also add five RBI.  Dustin Bartlett and Steven Hoyle would add four hits apiece and Chris Allen would get on base all four times he came to the plate with a single, a double and two walks.

In the second game, John Shannon would take the mound and pitch a complete game but get the loss. He would scatter nine hits and two earned runs. Jesse Wise and Brent Ashbaugh would have two hits apiece and Adam Speas would hit his sixth homerun of the year. Montreat College now stands at 35-17 and will go into the conference tournament as the fourth seed and will play UVA-Wise at 9:00am on Wednesday in Kingsport, Tennessee.
