Montreat College Baseball sweeps to finish second in the Appalachian Athletic Conference to Tennessee Wesleyen.
The Cavaliers were able to salvage the season and win seven of their last eight conference games to finish with a 12-6
record and earn the second seed in this weeks conference tournament. Montreat will play seventh seeded Bluefield College
in Kingsport, Tennessee starting on Wednesday.
Great starting pitching and defense were the keys in both contest as John Shannon(Waynesville, Nc) and Jason Adkins
(Jacksonville, Nc) were both steller. Shannon pitched 7& 2/3 innings scattering seven hits and recording five strikeouts and three
earned runs in the first game with Steven Hoyle(Cherryville, Nc) coming in and holding Bluefield for the final four outs.
Leading the way at the plate with some very key hits were Michael Tollison(Batesburg,Sc) with two doubles and two rbis and
Noel Berumen(Union City, Ca) with a double and three rbi. Mitch Williams(High Point, Nc) had two hits as well with an rbi.
In the second game Adkins proved to be too much as the senior ran his record to 9-3 with the victory. He pitched six strong innings
and only allowed one run on six hits and five strikeouts. Steven Hoyle(Cherryville, Nc) would be asked to come in and shut down
the rally once again and he would not allow a hit while striking out two.
Michael Tollison(Batesburg, Sc) leads the way at the plate in the second contest as well with a homerun, a single and two rbis.
Dane Phillips(Charlotte, Nc) also had two hits in this contest including his second double of the day.
