Academic Advising

Twice a year students will go through an advising period, previous to registration. During these times, it is important to make sure to plan for graduation efficiently. Here are some tools to help both students and advisors along the way:

  1. Students can access their transcript record through their Student Information System, or through IQ web. Transcript records are important for advising to make sure classes are passed sufficiently, as well as verify the classes that have been taken in a degree path.
  2. Major and competency classes must be passed with a "C" or better
  3. Remember that 126 hours must be completed before a student can graduate.
  4. Remember that students must take at least 33 hours in the upper level (300+)
  5. Students will be sent a graduation audit once they reach Junior status.
  6. Students MUST follow the catalog that they entered Montreat under. This will be their catalog until graduation, no matter when they declare their major, etc.
  7. Make sure to double check course prefixes and titles, as classes can change from year to year.
  8. After going through the advising meeting, make sure to obtain the advisor's signature on the registration form, regardless of whether or not registration takes place online. This way, if there are any prerequesite problems, etc., students can turn in their registration forms, and not spend additional time searching for signatures.
