Program Goals
• To increase participant knowledge of the natural sciences

Enrollment
Complete the Student Application (including teacher nomination) and indicate your preferred trip. Trips are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If, by the time we receive your application, your preferred trip is unavailable, we will contact you with your options. Friend Requests: We will attemp to place friends together on a trip, however we cannot guarantee their placement. The maximum capacity for each trip is 8-10 students (trip dependent).
Fees
Upon registration, a deposit of $50 is due. This is applied to your TOTAL trip fee and secures your spot. In order to determine your TOTAL trip fee, find your place on the sliding scale and provide this information on the Student Application. Multi-child discounts are available.

Confirmation
CLIMBE will primarily contact you via email. After we have processed your application and trip deposit, you will receive a welcome letter and additional forms from CLIMBE. Contact Us with questions in the mean time.
Arrival & Departure
• The arrival time for each trip is Sunday at 3:00 pm
Please arrive ON TIME for a pre-trip orientation
• The departure time for each trip is Friday at 3:00 pm
Please arrive ON TIME for a post-trip presentation
• Parents will spend about 1 hour at CLIMBE during arrival/departure
Directions
From Interstate 40:
• Take Exit 64 (Black Mountain)
• Go NORTH on Broadway (NC-9)
• Proceed through Black Mountain on Broadway/Montreat Road towards Montreat
• Pass through the Montreat Gate (road becomes Assembly Drive)
• Continue on Assembly Drive until you pass Lake Susan on right
• Turn RIGHT on Assembly Circle
• Follow signs to CLIMBE at McAllister Gym
Visitation
Every effort is made to meet the needs of each student. Due to the nature of the trips, students cannot have visitors. A parent / guardian may contact CLIMBE to inform about the well-being of their child. In the case of a family emergency, parent/guardians should contact the Program Director for action.
How to Pack
• All garments must be synthetic material or wool – NO COTTON
• Plan to wear layers – a base layer, an insulating layer, and a rain shell
• A good rain jacket is essential – it will protect you from the elements
• Your boots MUST be broken in – this will save you discomfort during the trip
• Don’t buy NEW clothing or gear – visit thrift stores or borrow from friends

• 1 pair of water shoes (Rivers only)
• 1 heavy sweater or jacket
• 1 rain jacket or poncho with hood (must be waterproof)
• 1 hat that covers ears
• 1 hat with a brim
• 1 bandana
• 1 pair light-weight gloves (optional)
• Headlamp or flashlight, batteries
• Personal hygiene items
(toothbrush/paste, unscented deodorant, sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent)
• Prescription medications
• Camera in a protective case
• Happy smiling face
• Comfy clothes and shower items in separate bag for after the trip
What NOT To Bring
Pocket knives, lighters, watches, cell phones, music players, handheld games, books or magazines, food or candy, expensive clothing, jewelry, make-up, alcohol, tobacco products, fireworks, or an unhappy attitude.
Personal Gear
CLIMBE will provide each student with all the necessary gear for each trip (example: sleeping bag, backpack, etc). You may bring personal gear; however ,CLIMBE will determine whether your gear can be used.
Field Educators
CLIMBE hires fully qualified and highly trained Field Educators. The student to staff ratio is 10:2. Staff are trained in wilderness medicine, group dynamics, and various adventure skills. Staff are closely supervised by administrators and adhere to stringent guidelines.
Safety & Insurance
CLIMBE is run by the Outdoor Education Dept at Montreat College, which has over 30 years of adventure program experience and adheres to strict risk management policies. All students are required to have health insurance for the trip for the unlikely event of an injury or illness.
Refund Policy
Trip fees are non-refundable unless CLIMBE is unable to provide a suitable trip date for the student or is forced to cancel a trip that the student was registered to attend. |
