About the Library

1916 
1916
  Cora A. Stone Memorial Library, housed in the current post office building, served the newly formed Montreat Normal School for Young Women.

    

1920 
1920
 
The college developed a separate library housed in the Montreat Hotel, until the hotel burned. The collection was then moved to Anderson Auditorium.
              

   

19351935  Gaither Hall was constructed, housing in its south wing the merged collections of the Cora A. Stone Memorial Library and Montreat College Library.

   


19731973  A new library facility was constructed and named in honor of missionary surgeon Dr. L. Nelson Bell.
 

 

2001
2001  A major renovation of the L. Nelson Bell Library was completed. Wireless technology throughout the facility and a computer lab facilitate access to the library’s one hundred plus databases.
