Montreat, NC --- Artist Deborah Johnson’s pencil and watercolor drawings celebrating the beauty at the end of life will be on display at the Hamilton Gallery from October 2 through November 21. Evolving out of a period in which the artist was drawn to paint winterscapes in shades of white, these drawings bring to light the unique character of each person in a world where there seems to be only white and sameness. In the late 70s, Ms. Johnson spent time in a nursing home and a geriatric mental health facility, where she captured the warmth, beauty, and spirit of men and women at the end of their lives, and the result is the life-affirming “Passing.” The Hamilton Gallery is located on the mezzanine of the L. Nelson Bell Library; hours of exhibition are 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
