Camera Obscura Presentation

Jim Southerland, Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Montreat College traveled to Grace Centre in Fletcher this week to present his camera obscura work for the Hendersonville Arts League. Southerland has been working with his camera obscura for 30 years and teaching at Montreat College for 20 years. “Camera obscura” is Latin for ‘darkened chamber’ and Southerland’s unique body of art has been produced using his original camera obscura constructed by following directions he found in a magazine early in 1978.

To learn more about Southerland’s work, visit his website at: http://www.southerlandfineart.com/. Southerland currently has a collection of his plein air work at the Seven Sisters Gallery in downtown Black Mountain. The collection will be on exhibit through November 11th.
