Keystone Scholarship Reaches Fundraising Goal

It is a joy to announce that at 4:50 on Wednesday, June 30, ten minutes from the end of the final business day of the fiscal year just ended, Montreat College met its goal for the Keystone Scholarship for 2009-2010, raising a final total of $1,651,348, thus surpassing its targeted amount by just over a thousand dollars!

The Keystone Scholarship takes its name, of course, from the wedge-shaped stone which locks the rest of the arch in place, as depicted in the Montreat College logo. In other words, the keystone is that one on which every other stone depends for support. Likewise, hundreds of students depend on the Keystone Scholarship, a merit- and financial needs-based scholarship program that benefits every Montreat traditional undergraduate student and enables the college to recruit and retain the very best and brightest students. Joe Kirkland, the Vice-President for Advancement, explained how the fund-raising goal was met: “This year, almost 700 individuals helped the college reach this target. I am grateful for all those among our college family who gave, prayed, and encouraged the process of achieving this goal.” “I marvel at God’s provision,” Kirkland continued, “as, in the closing days and even hours, he directed several individuals including our Trustees to help our students through gifts to the Keystone Scholarship. We are blessed by their passion for the Christian higher education we pursue at Montreat College.” Adding a final thought as he reflected on the end of the campaign, Kirkland said: “A new year is before us. We have already begun to receive gifts to the Keystone Scholarship. God is good.” More information about the Keystone Scholarship is available at www.montreat.edu/giving.
