A senior English major at Montreat College, Roccanti created the 18 x 24 inch paintings on canvas with tempera paint and are the artist’s effort to fuse her love of literature with her love of painting. Roccanti’s dual interests resulted in paintings which interpret the settings of famous works of literature or poems, and while the artist remained true to the authors’ descriptions, she said that the paintings necessarily focus on the “feeling or mood of the work of literature.”
Roccanti asserts that all readers “paint mental images of the scenes in the books we read” and hopes visitors to her exhibit will enjoy her interpretations “while creating their own images in their minds as well.”
