A Christian Response to Global Climate Changes

This Wednesday, Seeds is honored to be hosting a convocation for Restoring Eden's "Ankle Deep in Reality" tour at 7:30 P.M. in Room 110 of the Morgan Science Building on the Montreat College campus. For this lecture and discussion, Rev. Lusama from the South Pacific island of Tuvalu will share a Christian perspective on the impacts of climate change upon the land, families, churches and the vulnerable communities of the South Pacific.

Rev. Lusama pastored congregations throughout the South Pacific before focusing on peace and justice efforts affecting his homeland. With this in mind, Rev. Lusama did his graduate studies on theological perspectives of climate change. As part of his current work, Rev. Lusama established the Tuvalu Climate Action Network (TuCAN) in 2006. He has represented Tuvalu in important international negotiations and appeals to industrialized countries to consider Tuvalu’s very survival as they make daily individual choices and political decisions.

Rev. Lusama will be joined by South Carolina native and former evangelical pastor, Peter Illyn. Peter is a nationally-renowned creation care speaker and the founder of Restoring Eden (www.restoringeden.org). He's a pioneer in the creation care movement, and has been speaking at churches and Christian colleges about this issue for over a decade.

Peter and Rev. Lusama will give a joint presentation on creation care focused on how climate change is affecting "the least of these" in places like Tuvalu. Their talk will highlight personal and spiritual implications of climate change and other environmental issues that are hurting our impoverished communities around the globe.
