Among the leaders for this change are the members of the Green Campus Task Force (GCTF) who meet regularly to discuss the best way to implement campus sustainability initiatives. Their efforts are driven by the Biblical mandate to be stewards of the Earth and to care for God’s creation. Students, community members and visitors have always agreed that the Montreat campus bears evidence of the beauty of God’s creation – in spades. Recent efforts to better care for our corner of the creation here will help ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy an unspoiled landscape.
There are several programs currently coordinating as part of the Going Green Campaign. These include a campus-wide recycling program, dorm energy-use competitions, and a column in the Whetstone about how to “be green.” There are also several different student and staff groups who take action to make a difference in addition to the GCTF. One group is Seeds, the student body’s environmental club. They provide a platform for any green-headed students who want to get involved to make positive changes on campus. Finally, one of Montreat College’s big green projects is the Garden of Eatin’, a student-led community garden that grows organic veggies and teaches valuable gardening skills to any student volunteers.
If you would like to know more about any of these projects, there are several people you can contact.
