R.C. Anderson was the first Montreat College President, serving in that office as well as the President of Mountain Retreat Association for over 30 years until his resignation in 1947. He and his wife of over 50 years, Sadie Gaither Anderson, for whose parents Gaither Hall is named, established the Anderson Foundation “… to aid in the carrying on of the work of Christian education and of missions….” through organizations related to the PC(US) and its successors.
The recent donation to Montreat College was one of a record number of gifts that contributed to Montreat College exceeding their $1.65 million Keystone Scholarship Fund goal for the year. Dr. Dan Struble, President of Montreat College since 2004, says, “We are grateful for the ongoing impact of Dr. and Mrs. Anderson through the trustees of their foundation. Their gift combined with the many gifts of local members of Black Mountain Presbyterian Church (USA) and Montreat Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Presbytery of Western North Carolina to help meet the scholarship needs of our students this year.”
The Keystone Fund is the major scholarship fund for the college, benefiting current and incoming students each year.
