Please make plans to be a part of our annual golf tournament on June 17, 2008.

The Cliffs at Walnut Cove celebrated its grand opening in April 2005. Nestled in a natural amphitheater of spectacular mountains, golf at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is as aesthetically pleasing as it is exciting to play. Protected by the natural boundaries of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Pisgah National Forest, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course offers challenging greens, bentgrass fairways, and strategic bunkering. Making the most of the natural features of the site, the course combines the best of Jack Nicklaus golf with the unspoiled beauty of western North Carolina.

Celebrity Guests:

Tommy Bowden is the head football coach at Clemson University. He is the son of Bobby Bowden, head coach at Florida State University. In November 2003 he beat his father’s #3 ranked Florida State Seminoles, 26-10, at Death Valley, in a game nicknamed the Bowden Bowl. Bowden’s Clemson teams have been to a bowl game every year he has been coaching except one. In 1999 and 2003, Bowden was named ACC Coach of the Year. In January of 2006, he was given the Grant Teaff National Coach of the Year Award by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Steve Sloan enjoyed an outstanding career at the University of Alabama under Paul “Bear” Bryant; he earned All-American honors and guided his team to a national title. While he played, the Crimson Tide had a combined record of 28-4-1, including two SEC Championships, one Sugar Bowl and two Orange Bowl appearances. He has also been recognized as the Southeastern Conference MVP, Orange Bowl MVP, Academic All-American, SEC Coach of the Year, and the Southwest Conference Coach of the Year. As an amateur golfer, Sloan qualified for the Senior Open Championships.

DeWitt Weaver has been a dominant force in the state of Georgia, winning a record seven Georgia PGA Championships and a record four Georgia Opens. DeWitt and his son DeWitt III are the only father-son winners of the Georgia Open and hold a world-record 55 in a two-man competitive scramble. DeWitt won two PGA Tour events and one Champions Tour event. By IBM statistics in 1969 he was the longest driver on the PGA Tour, averaging 279.8 yards—one yard longer than Jack Nicklaus. Although honored by his induction into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 1998, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, and the Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, he considers the births of his four children and his eleven grandchildren his greatest moments.
