Baseball splits with Salem State

(Clearwater, FL) The Cavaliers continued their spring break Florida trip Wednesday against Salem State College from Salem, Massachusetts. The Cavs lost game one of the doubleheader 4-3 thanks to a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the eighth by Salem State's junior first baseman Rob Coppola. Montreat's Brain Green had a stellar outing on the mound but picked up the tough loss. He pitched four innings only giving up two hits and one earned one. Green also recorded six strikeouts on the day. Freshman shortstop Steven Collado recorded his first multi-hit game as a Cavalier going 2-3. Dane Phillips hit his sixth homerun of the year which currently puts him at the top of the homerun list in the AAC.

The Cavaliers won game two of the doubleheader 4-1 behind the strong performance of Matt Braswell on the mound.  This was Braswell's first start of the year.  He pitched four complete innings giving up only three hits and striking out six.  Brent Ashbaugh and Jessie Wise both collected two hits apiece and Dane Phillips and Steven Hoyle collected two RBI's each.

The Cavaliers are currently 16-7 overall and 1-1 in AAC play.  They return from their spring break trip this weekend to take on conference rival Virginia Intermont in Bristol, VA.  First pitch on Saturday is set for 1:00.
