Garrett Jones delivers No-Hitter, near perfect game!
Junior Garrett Jones (Elwood, IN) threw a no-hitter against Salem International in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader. Jones was absolutely dynamic in picking up his first victory of the season as he would propel the Cavaliers to win their third game in a row. Jones faced only three batters above the minimum, while striking out four and only allowing two walks. The left-handed junior college transfer from Kishwaukee College showed why he is regarded as one of the top pitchers in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. "He changes speeds exceptionally well and is very accurate with his fastball," says Assistant Coach Mike Bender. The Cavs will continue to count on Jones to be in the top of the rotation all season.
Jones would get plenty of run support throughout the game. The Cavaliers reached the five innings, ten-run rule limit for the second time in two days. The one-two combo of Brent Ashbaugh (Tara, Ontario) and Chad Dawkins (Rockingham, NC) would stay on base all day as they combined for five hits, two doubles and three RBI’s. Adam Speas (Rural Hall, NC) also found himself on base in all three attempts with a single, a walk and hit by pitch, and scoring two runs. Cameron Duckworth (Asheville, NC) would hit his fourth homerun of the season in the 10-0 victory.
