Program Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the Master of Arts in Education (K-6) program, graduates holding or eligible to hold a North Carolina level A teaching license will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and competencies
- Analyze, evaluate, and synthesize current research in order to enhance teaching practice
- Design instructional plans and materials that incorporate knowledge of students’ developmental levels, interests, abilities, and learning accomplishments consistent with research based educational practices and state standards
- Establish a classroom climate conducive to engagement in learning, e g positive social interaction, safe and developmentally appropriate environment, efficient organization of time and materials
- Evaluate the presence of empathetic caring among stakeholders in students’ education
- Implement instructional strategies that employ knowledge of subject matter and use research-based educational practices that reflect how students learn, are sensitive to individual difference and diverse cultures
- Create a community of learners based on collaboration with parents, colleagues, and members of the community to provide internal and external assistance to students and their families in order to promote student learning
- Develop collaborative experiences with colleagues to enhance job performance and advance teaching as a profession
- Evaluate verbal, non-verbal, and electronic communication delivery as effective delivery tools for instruction
- Design both formal and informal assessment formats that insure the continuing development of students.
