Gateways for...

The classroom is just the beginning of the experience at Montreat! We provide numerous opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular activities and to think critically about their worldview and role in culture. Some Student Activities are very intentional in coming alongside in support of educational goals while other activities are simply designed for pure fun.

Activities include
(though not limited to):
Concerts, specialty dances, Coffee House events, Talent Show, Film Festival, Movie Nights, Open Mic Nights, Rafting and Kayaking trips, Bingo Night, King of Hearts, The Maze, Nerf Games at the Manor House, and many other new and old traditions of Montreat College. We also do special promos at our athletic events on occasion to help foster additional school spirit on campus.

Dances
are themed and we use a wide variety of venues. The themed dances include ballroom, swing, salsa/latin, contra, square, and more. For specialty dance nights we usually provide a lesson prior to the event.

Concerts at Montreat
span a wide range of musical genres. While being a christian liberal arts college, we believe that God reveals Truth both within and outside of mainstream evangelical christianity. Therefore, we seek provide opportunities to train, sharpen, and discern the positive and negative messages found in all art forms with particular emphasis given to music and film in pop culture.

Over the past few years, some of the musicians we've had on campus include:
Derek Webb, Bill Mallonee, Kellin Watson, The Urban Sophisticates, The Firecracker Jazz Band, Randal Goodgame, Andy Osenga, Bebo Norman, The Annie Moses Band, Ellery, Katie Bowser, and many more.

Artist Conversations: When a featured artist visits our campus, we typically host an artist conversation prior to the concert for a time of learning about the artist and what influences their expressions. Both Students and the Guest Artists enjoy this time and often cite this as one of their most favorite parts of their visit.

Mission and Goals:  Student Activities seeks to mobilize student leaders to help shape the campus culture through diverse out-of-the-classroom experiences and by holistically challenging each student to reach full potential in understanding self and giftedness, Biblical stewardship, and living within community.

Our goals are:
1. To provide diverse out-of-the-classroom experiences which glorify God through fun, celebration, and educational enhancement.

2. To help students understand who they are and how God has uniquely gifted them.

3. To help students learn to be good stewards of God’s creation as well as personal and campus resources.
