Montreat Volleyball Announces 2008 Schedule

“The 2008 Montreat Volleyball schedule will be a challenging one for the Lady Cavaliers,” said Lady Cav coach Leslie Gehris, who will be beginning her 3rd season at Montreat. “As a coaching staff we feel that in order to prepare our team for competitive conference matches we have to schedule competitive non-conference matches. Preseason is what prepares our ladies for the challenges they will face when we get into the heart of AAC competition.” Coach Gehris has prepared a schedule that will test Montreat from the get go. The season gets underway with the home opener against NAIA opponent Southern Wesleyan on Aug. 27.

The Lady Cavs will also host their second annual Quad Match which currently features Brevard College and Reinhardt College.

Montreat starts the September portion of its schedule on the road taking on NCAA Division II opponent Mars Hill (Sept. 2).  The Lady Cavs waste no time and will then open conference play on the road with UVA-Wise (Sept. 3) and Milligan College (Sept. 9).   Before heading to Milligan, Montreat will travel to Winston-Salem to take on NCAA Division III Salem College in non-conference action (Sept. 6). The Lady Cavs return home on September 11 to take on NCAA Division II North Greenville and hit the road for their weekend conference matches with Covenant (Sept. 12) and Bryan Colleges (Sept. 13).

Montreat returns home on September 16 to open conference play at home against Bluefield College and AAC rival King College on September 18.  The Lady Cavs will travel to Francis Marion College (Florence, SC) for a two day tournament and then to Virginia Intermont College (Sept.23) for AAC action.  The remainder of the September slate includes two home conference matches against Tennessee Wesleyan (Sept. 26) and Union College (Sept. 27).  Union claimed the AAC regular season championship last season.

In October, the Lady Cavs continue their home AAC stretch with UVA-Wise (Oct. 7), Virginia Intermont (Oct. 14), and Milligan College (Oct. 16).  Montreat travels to Athens, TN on October 21 to take on AAC opponent Tennessee Wesleyan and then heads to Bluefield College on October 23.  The Lady Cavs will compete in their final tournament of the season in North Greenville’s Tri-Match on October 25.  Montreat returns to conference play as they travel to Barbourville, KY to face Union College (Oct. 28) and finishes up the month in a home contest against Bryan College (Oct. 31).

In November, Montreat finishes up their home stint with Covenant College (Nov. 1) and finishes up AAC play on the road against King College (Nov. 4).  Before heading to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament, the Lady Cavs will face NCAA Division II opponents Tusculum (Nov. 10) and Lenoir Rhyne (Nov. 12).

"We feel that the Lady Cavaliers will be prepared and successful against teams we have scheduled for 2008 and hope this will build confidence," said Coach Gehris.
