Montreat Women's Softball Team opens season with spilt of a Double Header with NCAA Division II Mars Hill College.

(Montreat, NC) --- The Montreat College Women's Softball Team opened their season with a split of a Double Header against NCAA Division II Mars Hill College.

In the first game, Haven Payne-(Jr. Canton, NC) pitched a complete seven inning game. Montreat won the game 4-3. The Lady Cavaliers had 4 hits to score 4 runs, while Mars Hill had 7 hits to score 3 runs.

Leading the way for the Lady Cavs; Caroline Taylor-(Fr. Asheville, NC) was 1 for 3. Amber Taylor-(So. Candler, NC) was 1 for 3 scoring 1 run. Mary Montgomery-(Jr. Bristol, TN) was 1 for 3, scoring 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Haven Payne was 1 for 3, scoring 1 run and she had 2 Runs Batted In. Leading hitters for Mars Hill; Paige Brantley was was 2 for 2 scoring 1 run and Kristina Osborn was 2 for 4.

Montreat starts the season 1-0, while Mars Hill starts out 0-1.

Game 2:

Mars Hill jumped out early on Montreat starting pitcher, Rachel Stowe-(Fr. Belmont, NC).
After 3 innings Mars Hill led Montreat 6-3. In the fourth and fifth Mars Hill added 5 more runs, while the Lady Cavs added only 1 run in the botton of the fifth. Montreat scored 3 runs on 6 hits, Mars Hill scored 11 runs on 13 hits.

Leading hitters for the Lady Cavs; Amber Summerow-(So. Lenior, NC) was 1for 2, scoring 1 run.
Caroline Taylor-(Fr. Arden, NC) was 1 for 2, scoring 1 run. Mar Montgomery-(Jr. Bristol, TN) was 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs, 1 stolen base. Leading the way for Mars Hill; Rebekah Huff was 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs, Kristina Osborn was 2 for 4, scoring 2 runs. Tiffany Self was 2 for 4 scoring 1 run. Tiara Mitchell was 2 for 3, scoring 1 run.

Montreat goes to 1-1 on the season. The Lady Cavaliers travel to Charlotte, NC to take on Belmont Abbey College in an non conference double header. Game time for the first game is 2:00 pm.
