Lady Cavalier Golf Team set new Montreat scoring record!

Head Golf Coach David Pennell’s Lady Cavs are grinding it out toward another banner season. In their second fall tournament of the season, the Lady Cavs posted a new school scoring record of 351 on Monday as they finished second in the Montreat College Fall Invitational, hosted by the Crooked Creek Golf Course in Hendersonville, NC. The Cavs made a great impression upon AAC competitors as they defeated Tennessee Wesleyan and King College along the way to scoring a tournament total 717. Leading the way for Montreat was freshman Melissa Baker (Clayton, NC) by tallying a 174 (91-83) for the two day tournament. Other scorers were Amber Cody (Marion, NC) who led Montreat after the first day by firing an impressive 83; she ended with a two-day total of 174. Rounding out Montreat’s scorers were Ashley Mitcham (Waynesville, NC) with an 84-95 (179), Amanda Thompson’s 93-92 (185), and Aimee Turner’s 107-98 (205).

Other lady golfers playing for Montreat were:

Caitlin Dempsey-(FR. Branford, Florida) 98-98=196
Allie Wall-(FR. Marion, NC) 107-100=207

On the men’s side, Montreat finished 13th overall with freshmen Cory Howard (Statesville, NC) and Sean Mckaig (Tryon, NC) leading the Cavaliers with a two-day total of 165, and 171 respectively.  Other Montreat scorers were:

Thomas Nicholson-(SR. Troutman, NC) 92-87=179
Nathan Plunkett-(JR. Georgia) 102-101=203
