Lady Cavaliers fall to Covenant College at home

With star player Chazaree Wright out with a leg injury, Coach Jackson's Lady Cavaliers fell to one of the top AAC teams last night in Covenant College, 67-79. "It's really tough when you lose your top scorer who's also our top rebounder," said Jackson, "we have to continue to find ways to make up for that. We have to rely on the bench and the other players to step up. I felt we did some good things there down the stretch, cutting the lead to just one a couple of times. All in all, we played a pretty solid game against them." Picking up some of the scoring responsibility was Sophomore forward Whitney Boone (Bakersville, NC), as she dished in 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Boone was 7-for-16 for the night, with 2-of-5 from 3-point land. Another Sophomore, Kera Bryant (Jacksonville, FL), stepped up her offensive contributions by adding 12 points and six rebounds for the Lady Cavs. Bryant was 6-of-10 from the floor.

It was Lyndee Biles that led the Lady Scots with 21 points, while Liz Martin earned 19 points of her own.

Montreat fell early to the Lady Scots, going into the locker room 35-23.  The Lady Cavs shot only 29% from the floor in the first half, before improving to 44% in the second half.  They were able to match Covenant's 44 points in the second half, but the damage had already been done earlier in the game.  Montreat struggled to take care of the ball as they had twice as many turnovers as Covenant, 26-13.

Montreat is now 11-13 and 4-9 in conference play.  They continue home action this Saturday in another tough AAC game versus King College.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
