Lady Cavs drop home game against Tennessee Wesleyan
Montreat dropped an important conference game to Tennessee Wesleyan (6-11, 4-3) last night, 59-71. The loss now puts Montreat four games out of the lead in the AAC race. The Lady Cavalier Player of the Game honor went to Chazaree Wright. Wright was able to contribute 15 points and pull down 13 rebounds. However, it was not enough to hold off four Lady Bulldogs in double figures. TWC was led by Lindsey Jackson's 18 points and five rebounds. "We had a hard time guarding the basketball tonight," said Head Coach Craig Jackson, "We sent Tennessee Wesleyan to the line way too many times. Hopefully, we can bounce back against Bennett on Thursday." Coach Jackson makes reference to TWC's 19-of-28 free throws, compared to Montreat's 6-of-8.
Montreat received solid contribution from Kim Staley. Staley was the only other Lady Cavalier in double digits, as she scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds of her own. Montreat shot 40% from the floor compared to TWC's 49%. However, it was the long ball that made a huge difference for the Lady Bulldogs to win over Montreat; the Lady Cavs were 1-for-9 (11%) while TWC shot 8-for-12 (67%) from the 3-point line.
Montreat will now take on Bennett College in Greensboro, NC this Thursday at 6:00pm. The Lady Cavaliers are now 8-9 overall and 2-5 against AAC competition.
