Lady Cavs defeat UVA-Wise behind Wright's 28 points
Chazaree Wright was near perfect for the Lady Cavs as she hit 13-of-14 shots in a sensational 66-44 victory over UVA-Wise. Wright earned the AAC's Player of the Week honors last week for her consistent double-doubles; though she wasn't able to pull down her season's average 10 rebounds, Wright did manage to put her hands on eight rebounds, one block, and hit 3-of-4 free throws. Both teams sized each other up during the first half as Montreat went into the locker room with a one point low scoring lead, 18-17.
Montreat held the Lady Cavs of UVA-Wise to only 28% shooting, while Montreat managed 56%. AAC leader in blocks per game, Kim Staley was the other Lady Cavalier to earn double digits with 13 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
"We shot seventy-eight percent from the floor in the second half. We managed to pull away at that point. It's always great to have a road win, even better to have a conference road win. So, we will see how this helps us as we go back home and continue our conference play against Tennessee Wesleyan," said Coach Craig Jackson.
Montreat is now 8-8 overall and 2-4 in the AAC. Montreat now faces Tennessee Wesleyan at home on Tuesday at 5:30pm.
