King College too much for Lady Cavaliers
Montreat College fell to 1-4 in the AAC race by losing to King College last night, 61-66. "Good things are happening on the road for us, but unfortunately we fell a little short tonight" said Head Coach Craig Jackson, "King College is a tough place to play, hopefully, the next time we face them, the outcome will be different." King College fed off the home crowd as they overcame Montreat's nearly 45% shooting from the floor compared to their 37%. The difference maker in the contest, like in most close games, boiled down to the fundamentals- free throws. Montreat shot only 6-for-10, while the Lady Tornadoes hit 27-of-31.
Montreat was also credited with 21 personal fouls, compared to King's 9. The 27 free throws made by King surpassed Montreat's total points for the second half (25). The Lady Cavaliers held the slight edge at the half (36-33) behind the sharp shooting of the junior guard Whitney Mace. Mace's 5 3-pointers helped her tally 19 points against the Lady Tornadoes. AAC Player of the Week Chazaree Wright once again found a double-double night as she earned 15 points and 15 rebounds. Kim Staley also had a double digit night with 13 points.
The Lady Cavs will continue their AAC play by heading into UVA-Wise this Saturday at 4:00pm.
