Lady Cavs score great win at home against Bryan College, 81-66
Montreat College defeated one the league’s best teams in Bryan College last night on its home court, 81-66. The Lady Cavs were led once again by Chazaree Wright. Wright has now positioned herself as one of the most versatile players in the AAC by virtue of her seven consecutive double-double games. Wright led all scores with 31 points and 11 rebounds against the Lady Lions. Whitney Boone, a 5’ 7” sophomore forward from Bakersfield, NC, also provided the home crowd with great entertainment as she posted her double-double for the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Janel Cox nearly had one of her own with 17 points and eight rebounds; though Cox’s favorite shot came from the free throw line as she was successful from it 13 out of 14 times. Montreat led at the halfway point by a 30-28 margin, before breaking the game open in the second half.
Montreat shot 50% from the floor overall and held the Lady Lions to 33%. Defensively, Montreat outrebounded Bryan 28-20, and Whitney Mace provided great inside presence by keeping Bryan's interior game at bay with four blocked shots for the night.
This great win gives the Lady Cavaliers a 5-6 overall record and 1-2 AAC standing. They face one of their toughest conference challenges this Saturday as they hit the road against another top team in the conference, Covenant College. Covenant sits at 2-1 in the AAC and 9-3 overall.
