Women's Basketball lose a tough AAC game to Union College
The Lady Cavaliers dropped a home conference game to Union College this Saturday, 94-87. The game went back and forth with Chazaree Wright finding her sixth double-double game with 26 points and 10 rebounds. "Chaz had a great night, as did Kim [Staley], Kim had a career high 17 points. This was another tough conference loss. We need to solidify us a win in the AAC and we have until Tuesday to get ready for Bryan College," said Head Coach Craig Jackson. The Lady Cavs had a solid offensive night, with Janel Cox also adding 19 points and seven rebounds, and Whitney Boone's 14 points; however, it was the Lady Bulldogs' perimeter shooting that stole the show.
Union Collge could not be stopped from behind the arch. The Lady Bulldogs hit 14 3-pointers for the night (14 of 26). With just over 10 minutes remaining in the game however, Montreat managed to tie the game at 68 all, after trailing 49-44 at halftime. But UC's Brooke Smith's 10 of 13 shooting was a main reason Montreat could not handle the Lady Bulldog's perimeter shooting.
Behind heavy determination, Montreat was able to clip the led to only 2 points with nearly 2 minutes remaining, but Union managed to pull away in the final seconds of the game. The Lady Cavs are now 4-6 overall and 0-2 in AAC. They continue conference action this Tuesday as they play host to Bryan College.
