Lady Cavs fall to NGU, 81-73
Five Lady Cavaliers hit double-digits last night, as Coach Craig Jackson felt Montreat played a well-balanced game in a tough McAlister loss. North Greenville was able to pull away in the latter part of the game to win 81-73. "We have no room for errors when we play tough D-II teams. We've cut down on our turnovers [14], so I think we're taking better care of the ball, and taking better shots. Unfortunately, we couldn't defend all that well late in the game."
Montreat led at the halfway mark and throughout 3/4 of game. Leading the way for the Lady Cavs was Chazaree Wright; she earned 21 points and nine rebounds. Whitney Boone had 14 points and five assists; freshman Kim Staley contributed 12 points and nine rebounds, and sophmore Janel Cox had 11 points of her own and seven assists. Rounding out all of Coach Jackson's starting five that earned double-digit points, local star Whitney Mace added 12 points and six assist. "We hit the road again at the Tennessee Temple tournament this weekend before starting our conference play against Virginia Intermont... I'm anxious to get started." added Coach Jackson.
The Lady Cavaliers will play Mount Vernon Nazarene this Friday in the opening round of the Tennessee Temple Tournament; game time is scheduled for 6:00pm. They will then play either Tennessee Temple or University of the Ozarks in Saturday's second round game. Montreat is now 3-3 overall.
