Men’s JV basketball team drop two more road games

The men’s JV basketball program continues to struggle on the road, losing a nail-biter to Wilkes Community College (75-72), and a tough 108-75 loss to Caldwell Community College. “The Wilkes game was a tough heartbreaker. We trailed by seven at half-time and got down as many as eleven points… so it was great to see them get back into it, behind AJ’s shooting,” said Coach Robinson, “unfortunately, Wilkes grabbed the victory when our last second chance to score failed to go in.” AJ Smith led all Montreat scorers with 20 points, including two late three pointers to keep the game close. Freshman Mikie Martin added 15 points and six assists. Sophomore Matthew Pride added 13 points and nine rebounds for the night.

The Caldwell Community game was a bit more one-sided as Coach Robinson felt the Cavaliers couldn’t handle the full-court pressure and Caldwell’s intensity.  “It’s hard to find a bright spot in the game, but Jeremy Bodenarian played hard and did some solid things tonight,” admitted Coach Robinson.  “We have two days to recover before we take on a very big and tough Veritas Christian team.”

The losses hand Montreat’s JV team a 1-5 record.  The Cavaliers hope to get things rolling as they take on Veritas Christian Academy this Thursday at 7:30pm.
