LEWIS WINS AAC CHAMPION OF CHARACTER AWARD FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

May 21, 2007

JOHNSTON CITY - The 2006-2007 Male Champion of Character Award goes to a man described by a teammate as “hands down the greatest competitor I’ve ever played with but at the same time he has never compromised any of his morals in any situation on the court.”  A first-team All-Conference player, he is also an All-Academic student.  His athletic prowess has been recognized at the national level where he was selected as an NAIA National Player of the Week this season while ranking in the top 10 nationally in two categories.

A man of “wisdom and spiritual maturity” he is an unparalleled leader on his campus and a highly sought-after speaker both on and off campus.  He has been the featured speaker to inmates at four North Carolina prisons and at youth rallies in the U.S. and abroad.  He has addressed the University of Tennessee basketball team, Rutgers University football team and athletes from the University of North Carolina.  He was the youngest speaker in the history of the NAACP Banquet in North Carolina this year.  He has inspired audiences abroad in South Africa and Argentina and worked in a center for at risk youth in Bluefield, WV.  Among his many awards is the 2005-2006 AAC Male Champion of Character.

To quote his athletics director: “Whether it’s leading FCA, tutoring and being a positive role model for elementary school kids, or being a campus leader, Tim is the definition of a Champion of Character.”
