HILTON HEAD ISLAND – William Sewell was the first Eagle to put pen to paper in a double signing at Hilton Head Christian Academy on Thursday.
Sewell, a 6-5, 195-pound post player led HHCA defensively with 2.0 blocks per game, and 2.1 steals per game as a senior. The Eagles won their regional championship, advanced to the final four of the state championships, and finished up with a 22-8 record.
During his high school career, Sewell lettered in basketball, football, soccer, baseball and swimming. He is also a passionate surfer.
“William is an accomplished all-round athlete. He’s in great condition right now, and I’m sure he’ll maintain that with his surfing during the summer,” said assistant coach Jamie Smith. “He’s a 6’5 post that can run the floor like a guard. He has a nice broad frame and seems to have added some muscle mass since the last time we saw him.”
“During try-outs, he showed glimpses of dominance on the glass. We are confident that we can develop him into a rebounding force,” commented head coach Bill Robinson. “He also looks comfortable out on the perimeter. This diversity in his game is a valuable asset in our system…We are very excited that William chose Montreat.”
Sewell Turned down interest from Lees-McRae and Averett University in favor of Montreat.
