Baby Shaq Inks With Cavs

May 2, 2007

SPRUCE PINE – Mayland Community College’s Brian Adams officially became a Cavalier on Tuesday.

Adams, a 6-7, 275-pound center from Gastonia was a two year starter for Mayland Community College. He averaged 10.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, and was named Second Team All-Conference as a sophomore.

Adams also prepped a year at Laurinburg Institute where he played for Chris Chaney. He led Laurinburg to a 39-1 record and a #1 prep school national ranking.

“Brian will help fill the huge hole left by our trio of graduating posts,” said Bill Robinson. “He is extremely strong and will be a huge presence in the paint. There is no one in our league with the strength to move him once he has position.”

The signing of Adams leaves Coach Robinson just one piece away from a team that he believes can defend their conference title and return the Cavs to the national tournament. “We can’t realistically expect to replace our front court of Tim Lewis, Noble Anthony, and Jazz Cathcart in one recruiting class, however the signing of Seth Moore, Matt Rushing, and now Brian Adams, really makes me excited for the future. If we can get our hands on one more dominant rebounding post we will be right in the thick of it again next season.”
