Over 215 runners flooded Montreat's newly designed cross country course, and though it may have been a bit challenging, the majority of the runners really enjoyed the layout! And leading the pack was a trio of Montreat College runners. Wilbourn Kosgei (Kapsebet, Kenya) broke the tape in 16:46.66, while newcomers Daniel Dunn (So., Daytona Beach, FL) and Andrew Hege (So./ Ledford, NC) followed closely behind in 16:59.09 and 17:25.42.
"Overall, this was a solid start. Many have to get back into racing shape and get used to the spikes again. With a tough week of training this past week, I felt they managed the course pretty well," added Larios. "One of the most important aspects of this Saturday was to connect with our community and to fellowship with high schoolers, middle schoolers, and adults in the blessings that we share so abundantly. We often take for granted the ability to run in such a beautiful place... we hope we made all of the runners aware of how blessed we are. One of the highlights was Andrew Hege's devotional he gave duruing the awards ceremony."
On the women's side, freshman Elisabeth Elliott (Polk County, NC) led the Lady Cavaliers with a time of 20:48.70, with Arilicia Adkins (Jr., Seffner, FL) close behind.
Both men and women will continue action this week at the University of North Carolina- Charlotte's Bojangles Invitational this Saturday, September 13th at 8:00am.
