Associate in Science Degree Graduation Requirements

  1. A total of 62 hours to include successful completion of the Associate Degree core with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on all course work completed through Montreat College.
  2. Satisfactory completion of the general education requirements or core classes as detailed above.
  3. In addition to successful completion of the general education requirement, the student must successfully complete the following competency requirements for the Associate in Science degree:

    • Must demonstrate oral competency by either previous course work or by successful completion of EN 231, Public Speaking and Presentations in the associate degree curriculum (if required, EN 231 can be used as elective hours).
    • Must have a health or physical education course or a waiver by the Dean of Adult Education (if required, the health or physical education course can be used as elective hours).
  4. If additional semester hours are required to reach 60 semester hours or to fulfill general education requirements, they may be obtained in the following ways:
    • Additional Montreat College courses
    • Montreat College PLUS courses
    • Montreat College "Credit for Prior Learning" portfolio credits
    • Standardized examinations: CLEP/PEP/USAFI/DANTES
    • Montreat College divisional and departmental proficiency testing
    • Correspondence and online courses from a regionally accredited institution (maximum of 9 semester hours)
    • Traditional college courses from a regionally accredited institution

    Students must earn a minimum of 24 semester hours at Montreat College. Note: A student who leaves Montreat College with less than 60 hours or less than a 2.0 grade point average may enroll in another institution and transfer back a maximum of 12 semester hours toward a degree at Montreat College.

    • Montreat College reserves the right to make necessary modifications in classes, fees, personnel lists and programs.
  5. Must demonstrate computer competency by either previous course work or by successful completion of CS 102, Introduction to Computers, in the associate degree curriculum (if required, CS 102 can be used as elective hours).
