Outdoor Education
at Montreat College

The Outdoor Education major combines the disciplines of Adventure Education and Environmental Education from a Christian worldview. The Outdoor Ministry major combines the disciplines of Christian Education and Outdoor Education.

The purpose of the Outdoor Education Department is to develop Christ-centered Outdoor Educators. By combining discussion-oriented classes with real-world experience, students learn to teach in, through, and about the outdoors.

Outdoor Education News
Montreat College Outdoor Education alumni Andrew Bobilya ('96) and Shane Sullards ('99) were part of two separate climbing parties that were able to summit Mount Rainier in Washington during July 2010. Sullards' group ascended the Emmons Glacier on July 17 - the third trip to the mountain for Sullards. Bobilya and Montreat alumnus and former professor, Dr. Darwin Glassford, were part of a 7-man team to ascend one week later on July 24th via the Disappointment Cleaver route out of Camp Muir. Both groups commented on what a unique and challenging experience mountaineering is and how thankful they were for the safety during their time on the mountain.
