A.A. from Brevard College.
B.S. from Appalachian State University in Biology and Experiential Education.
M.S. from Northern Illinois University in Outdoor Education.
M.A. in Biology with an emphasis in Ecology from Appalachian State University.
Ph.D. in Environmental Studies at Antioch University (New England Graduate School).
Additional Graduate Work: University of North Carolina at Asheville, University of Alaska at Anchorage, Northeastern Illinois University.

Work Experience
Chairman of the Board for the Christian Wilderness Leadership Coalition.
Helped to found Blue Ridge Backcountry, a local Christian Wilderness program.
