Environmental Education: From Its Roots to National Standards
On August 12th, Dr. Terry Wilson conducted a training session for college professors and others who train both formal and nonformal educators in the environmental field.
The training introduced the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Guidelines for the Initial Preparation of Environmental Educators. Environmental education is a field that has evolved significantly since its beginnings. The interactive presentation chronicles some of the highlights of this progression. It focuses on the major objectives of the field and the recent development of national standards in environmental education, which are being used in preparing both formal and nonformal environmental educators. Dr. Wilson will also be addressing how the guidelines have been accepted for formal teacher education training through NCATE.
