Eunice Wonderly Stackhouse, Professor of Music, holds graduate degrees in piano performance from Indiana University (M.M., with high distinction) and the University of Kansas (D.M.A., with honors); and a B.M.E. degree from Grace College summa cum laude).  Since 1996, she has taught Applied Piano, Piano Literature, Piano Pedagogy, and Music Theory courses at Montreat College. From 2001-2005 she also served as Chair of the Fine Arts Department and Director of Music Programs. Prior to teaching at Montreat, she held adjunct or sabbatical replacement positions at several institutions, including University of Indianapolis, Tabor College, Grove City College, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 

At Montreat, Dr. Stackhouse received the David L. Parks Distinguished Professor Award in 2006 and the Jack Crawford Advancement Award in 2001, and has also received two Faculty Scholarship Grants. She is listed in several recent and current editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers; and Marquis Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who in American Education.

She has performed extensively in both solo and chamber recital settings, and has adjudicated for many organizations. She has presented lecture-recitals at numerous conferences, including the Twenty-Fourth National Conference of the Society for American Music, Scripps College Symposium on Women in Music, and the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the College Music Society.  Her solo piano recitals have been recorded and broadcast by WQED-Pittsburgh and Radio Kansas

Dr. Stackhouse is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society (elected to lifetime membership by the Indiana University chapter); College Music Society; Music Teachers National Association, and the North Carolina Music Teachers Association, for which she served as a state officer from 2002-2007. Her 1995 dissertation on the piano music of Louise Talma was published by University Microfilms Inc. (#9540200), and her article on Talma’s twenty Soundshots was published in Clavier magazine in November 2002. She has also edited some unpublished Talma manuscripts for Hildegard Publishing Company.

In 2005, she presented a lecture-recital on the piano music of Juliette Graves Adams (1858-1951), followed by a compact disc © 2006 which is available from the L.
