Immersion Semester:

16 semester hours may include the following courses:
  • OE 306 Leadership and Group Dynamics (3 credits)
  • OE 312 Outdoor Programming and Leadership: Expedition Management (4 credits)
  • OE 313 Outdoor Programming and Leadership: Rock Climbing (4 credits)
  • PE 260 Winter Outdoor Education (1 credits)
  • ES 202 Field and Natural History (2 credits)
  • OE 341 Practicum (2 credits)
Certifications Available:
  • Wilderness Education Association (WEA) – International Registry of Outdoor Leaders
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR Certifications

Features:

  • Over 45 days of field-based Wilderness Leadership Training from a Christian worldview
  • Attendance at a regional or national Outdoor Education conference
  • Real-world experience providing outdoor programming for local youth agencies
  • Small group living/learning community on the college's Black Mountain Campus
  • Wilderness First Responder Training and Certification

 Prerequisite Requirement for All Students:

  • Completion of OE 180, 181 or 182 or comparable wilderness expedition
Requirements for Consideration for Outdoor Education Majors:
  • Completion of OE 103, OE 104, OE 190, PE 220 , OE 340 ( ES 201 - preferred)
  • Sophomore - Senior Class Standing (preference given to Juniors and Seniors)

How to Register:

  • Complete application and interview process
  • If accepted, submit non-refundable deposit
  • Complete and submit all pre-program paperwork (medical forms, risk acknowledgement, etc.)
