This 20-day wilderness expedition has been offered by the Outdoor Education department for over 30 years. Course components may include:
- Backpacking
- Rock Climbing
- Whitewater Canoeing
- Camping
- Route Finding
- Solo Experience
- Personal Challenge
- Course Description for OE 180 Discovery Wilderness Expedition (2) - A 20-day wilderness expedition that may include backpacking, rock climbing, whitewater canoeing, camping, route finding, a solo experience, and a personal challenge. Through these experiences, students are encouraged to work together with an attitude of service and gain an appreciation for the natural environment. The emphasis is on spiritual growth and Christian fellowship. A reflective paper will be required.
Discovery Checklist
1. Put your name on the Discovery Interest List – see Dave Sperry. Check out the Course Description and Enrollment Checklist to find out more about the application process.
2. Once you have decided you want to participate in Discovery, submit the Special Course Agreement (submitting the Special Course Agreement constitutes registration) and Application to Dave Sperry at the address below.
3. Registration is limited. Spots are on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t be slow or you might not get a space.
4. Complete and submit the rest of the forms:

Discovery Policy on Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco
5. Make an appointment with your physician. Submit completed medical history and doctor authorization to Dave. (Physician Authorization must be within 1 year.)
6. See the Equipment and Clothing List so you can collect, borrow, or purchase necessary gear. Remember to consult us with any questions.
7. Attend Discovery Meetings in April and May (optional for out-of-towners).
