Montreat Friends of Music - How to Help
|
|
 |
|
 |
We need volunteers to help us out in many different ways. The list that follows does not exhaust all the possibilities. If you have a skill or interest that doesn't seem to fit into one of the areas below, please contact us -- we very likely can find a way to utilize your efforts.
Fundraising Committee Chair: While the primary source of funds for the Friends of Music has been memberships and cash donations at concerts, we will need to expand our funding to include additional sources, such as foundations and local businesses. We will also be undertaking several special fund drives to support such projects as the Friends of Music Scholarship. We need a committee chair to provide leadership for these activities.
Fundraising Committee Members: We will need a number of members on this committee to assist with our fundraising efforts. People who would be willing to help solicit local businesses are particularly needed.
Grant Writer/Researcher/Consultant: We would like to explore the possibilities of applying for foundation or governmental grants to help fund our performances and other activities. The assistance of anyone with grants experience would be especially helpful.
Graphic Artist/Desktop Publishing Expert: We could use help with the design and creation of our many publications. We do all of our publication work in Adobe PageMaker and would welcome the volunteer assistance of anyone with expertise in and access to PageMaker.
Photographer: While most of our performing artists provide us with publicity photographs, we occasionally have a need to produce our own photos. We also need pre-performance publicity photos and photos of performance and social events involving Montreat College faculty and students.
Program Committee Member: The Program committee is the first Friends of Music committee that we have established. Its task is to line up performers for our Chapel Vespers series and our Showcase series. We need additional members, especially to help us develop a schedule for the Showcase series, and to help with some of the follow-up activity that is required prior to performances.
Publications Distribution Assistants: We do four mass mailings of the Quarter Notes each year, several other mass mailings to members, and we mail or personally deliver a large quantity of posters before each performance. We need helpers to prepare each mailing, and to deliver and put up posters throughout the local area.
Scholarship Committee Chair: We need a person to provide leadership as we inaugurate the Friends of Music Scholarship. The tasks of this committee may include: fundraising, developing and administering application procedures, establishing award criteria, planning and coordinating the scholarship competition event, and planning and coordinating the scholarship awards ceremony.
Scholarship Committee Member: We need members for the Scholarship Committee to assist the chair with the tasks listed above. It is anticipated that most of the work of this committee will be done between the autumn and spring of each year.
Social/Hospitality Committee Chair: We are planning at least two or three receptions/social events per year, possibly more, and will need a committee to do all the things needed to make events of this type happen. We need a leader for this committee.
Social/Hospitality Committee Member: We could use a number of people on this committee. Tasks might include: lining up volunteers to help or to prepare food; shopping for materials and supplies; soliciting local businesses for in-kind donations of foods and materials; picking up/delivering/returning supplies and materials before and after events; food preparation; event set-up; serving; post-event clean-up; etc.
Please consider volunteering your time to help us. The more people we get to help, the less work that each person must do. To discuss possibilities for volunteer service, please contact us:
