Mrs. Kathryn Hilliard, Lecturer in Music
Mrs. Hilliard teaches Introduction to Music and Class Piano and private piano lessons. She accompanies the College choir, Music Seminar and voice students. She holds the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees (with honors) in piano performance from Northeast Louisiana University. She was the teaching-owner-licensee of the Yamaha Music School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and also taught public school music, acted as the children's librarian/resource teacher at a private school, and taught 2nd grade, and 7th and 8th grade literature. Since relocating to Western North Carolina in 1992 with her son, Jacques, Mrs. Hilliard has been very active in the music culture of the area. She maintains a private teaching studio both in Black Mountain and in Fletcher, North Carolina, where she has taught piano since 1992. Having been a fully licensed Kindermusik teacher since 1993, she has taught at various locations in the Asheville area. This program covers early music education for children from birth through seven years. Her career as a church musician having spanned more than 40 years, she presently serves as pianist at First Baptist Church in Black Mountain, where she accompanies the choral program and performs solo and duet recitals. Mrs. Hilliard is a member of the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs, Asheville Piano Teachers Forum, Kindermusik Educators Association, and the Kindermusik Area Teachers Association. Kathryn lives in Black Mountain, North Carolina, with her newly-wedded husband, the Rev. Henry "Hank" Hilliard and Kathryn's son Jacques.
