Dr. Jeff Teo secured a grant for the college from Cisco, the world's largest manufacturer of computer networking equipment. With all of the recent news about security breaches and computer viruses, as well as a lack of well-qualified IT professionals who can effectively secure information systems, Dr. Teo sought and received a Faculty Research Grant that resulted in the development of information security curricula and a new course taught this spring entitled: Introduction to Information Security. Dr. Teo's work, funded by a Faculty Research Grant, led him to the discovery of the Cisco Equipment Grant, worth about $25,000. As part of his application for the Cisco grant, Dr. Teo submitted his research on the development of information security curricula, and the grant was awarded in the fall of 2006.

The Cisco Equipment Grant provides CIS majors with three routers, two firewalls and Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliances and one 24 port switch - all used in virtually any network CIS students will encounter as IT professionals. The grant stipulates that the equipment be used by students to assist them in gaining skills needed to design, configure, maintain, and monitor these devices in a network.

Dr. Teo's research grant was renewed for summer 2007 so that he could expand on last year's research. Kris Allen, who served as strategic planning consultant to the college, says, "The information security/information assurance curriculum Dr. Teo proposes currently has strong market demand and will be attractive to potential students, especially ones seeking a Christ-centered education, because of the limited offering of similar curricula at other Christian colleges".
