MONTREAT COLLEGE is opening a state of the art community-building and educational center in Black Mountain, NC. The Team and Leadership Center (TLC) includes components made up of a five-sided 50’ climbing tower, nine-element two tiered team challenge course, 15 fixed low group initiatives, portable initiatives, equipment room, restrooms, and open pavilion. Portions of the tower, teams course, and low elements are designed to be accessible to participants with disabilities. Restrooms and some trails are also designed to be accessible to participants with disabilities.
We are seeking a professional individual to lead the adventure education portion of our services that utilize the fixed and portable initiatives. This will include service to churches, ministries, community groups, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and corporations.
The director will work closely with the BackCountry program, the Outdoor Education department, and the Montreat College Professional Development Institute. The Center will offer academic training and field-based experience for MONTREAT COLLEGE students and provide auxiliary revenue for MONTREAT COLLEGE.
For this reason, MONTREAT COLLEGE is looking for a candidate with experience in daily operations, delivery, and management of adventure/experiential education programs primarily utilizing fixed and portable initiatives. Experience with challenge course facilitation, initiatives, games, cooperative learning, staff training, and risk management are critical.
This position will include community outreach, new program development, management of daily operations, and delivery of services, marketing, promotion, staff training, facility maintenance, and administration.
Programming will include high and low ropes courses, mobile experiential learning services, and multi-phased curriculum offered to youth and adults.
Applicant Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in recreation, outdoor education, education, group process, counseling, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

5 years of relevant professional experience

Budgeting and business development experience

Demonstrated risk management experience
-
Proven track record of working with student and adult populations

Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications

A passion for ministry, education and experiential learning

Personal relationship with Jesus Christ

Agree with and personally practice the MONTREAT COLLEGE faith statement

Twelve-month staff position.
