Crossroads 2013

This week we welcome back Crossroads: the Faith and Culture Project to our community. For almost two decades now, Montreat has hosted this incredible event. It is our pleasure to welcome Sarah Masen and David Dark to our campus as the Crossroads 2013 presenters!

Before I tell you a little bit about our fabulous speakers, let me tell you about the Crossroads program.

For those of you who do not know, the Crossroads initiative specializes in the exploration of the ever-changing culture of our society. It recognizes the very integral part that popular arts play in the formation and revelation of the human soul, and seeks to cultivate a positive presence within the dominantly secular fields of music, film and literature.

Our presenters, the husband-and-wife-team Sarah Masen and David Dark, join us this year to talk specifically about the cultural significance of music. Sarah is an American singer/songwriter, originally from Detroit, MI, who has been making waves in the music industry for almost twenty years now. After starting out with the acoustic folk-pop band The Art Institute, Sarah went on to release over five albums of her own, and continues to write and tour her music. As a part of Crossroads this year, Sarah will be performing for the Montreat community in Gaither Fellowship Hall on Monday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m.

This is David’s second time presenting at a Montreat Crossroads event – he has joined us once before, as a keynote speaker, in 2009. David is an American writer, responsible for great works such as: “The Sacredness of Questioning Everything, Everyday Apocalypse: The Sacred Revealed in Radiohead, The Simpsons and Other Pop Culture Icons” and “The Gospel According to America: A Meditation on a God-blessed, Christ-haunted Idea, which was included in Publishers’ Weekly’s top religious books of 2005. David will be presenting at four sessions over the next week; for more information, please see the schedule below, and please join us as we celebrate the 19th annual Crossroads: the Faith and Culture Project here at Montreat College!
